Run to your kitchen and gather the following ingredients:

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE CAKE

Cooking spray

1 1/2 c. (3 sticks) butter, softened

2 1/4 c. granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 tbsp. pure vanilla extract

3 c. all-purpose flour

1/4 c. cornstarch

2 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. kosher salt

1 1/4 c. milk

FOR THE BUTTERCREAM

1 1/2 c. (3 sticks) butter, softened

6 c. powdered sugar

1 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract

6 tbsp. heavy cream

1/4 tsp. kosher salt

Your turn to bake the magic!

Step 1:

Start off by preheating the oven to 350 degrees and line three 8 inch round cake pans with butter paper or parchment paper. Grease the pans with cooking spray or oil. Once you’re done with that, use a hand mixer and beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy in a large bowl. Add eggs one by one while you’re at it! Pour vanilla essence and mix until it is completely combined.

Step 2:

Get your hands on another large bowl and whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder and salt. Remember to sprinkle only the required amount of salt! Next, add half dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and keep beating until combined and mixed well. Pour in milk and mix to blend the ingredients. Add the remaining dry ingredients and stir until rightly combined.

Step 3:

After you’re done with mixing, it’s time to divide the batter evenly between cake pans and bake! Let the cakes be in the oven till the time a toothpick inserted comes out clean. It should be done in 30 minutes. Let it cool for 15 minutes in the pan and then transfer it to a cooling rack.

Step 4:

Buttercream time!

In another large bowl using a hand mixer, beat butter until it’s fluffy enough. Add sugar and beat until combined, then add vanilla, cream and salt. Keep beating until you think it’s ready to decorate the cake!

Frost your cake!

– Cut the cake tops so they are levelled after that, cut each cake into half.

– Pipe a ring of buttercream around the edge of the bottom layer and then fill in the centre. 

– Add the second layer of cake on top and repeat the process. 

– After all the layers are done, refrigerate the beauty for 15 minutes.

– Once 15 minutes are up, add a thin layer of buttercream around the cake so you can still see the edge of the sponge cake slightly. 

– Let that cake chill in the fridge for another 15 minutes.

– Your cake is ready to be devoured by your friends and family!
